The Method

The Step-Down Transformer approach.

Every great console — Harrison, Neve, SSL — steps energy down before tape. We rebuild that exact circuit Inside the Box. Click each stage to see what it does.

3D Transformer → Saturator → Tape

The foundation stage. Signal enters through a step-down transformer model that gently compresses dynamic range — exactly what a Harrison or Neve input transformer does electrically. Then a saturator for harmonic density. Then tape to glue transients without crushing them. Required on every bus.
4D + Thermal Mass

Adds a heat-response curve to the tape stage — the reason vintage consoles get thicker as a session runs. A predictable low-mid density shift that gives mixes the weight engineers chase with hardware summing, without drift or noise floor penalty.
5D + Fresh Air
+
Re-opens the top end that Thermal Mass rounds off. Modeled after the output transformer stage of a 32-track Harrison "King of Pop" room. The stage that makes a master feel commercial-loud without sounding crushed on streaming.

Fed by crosstalk summing. Every stage runs through a crosstalk bus — the controlled channel bleed that gives real consoles their depth and width. The interaction is engineered, not accidental.
